- WICEN >> since 1946 <<

WICEN NQ Event Logistic Communications Support
So far this year it looks like most the support will have an aquatic flavour,
with the call going out for Radio Amateurs to provide support for the following
events in North Queensland -

Strand Mini Swim No.1, 2.5km event with operators to arrive at the Picnic Bay Surf Lifesaving
Club (near the Teen Sports Complex) on the Strand by 11am on June 26th.
The event will be held in waters just off The Strand with one return lap of a linear course between
Strand Jetty and The Breakwater, with operators taking up vantage points on land
along the course.

Strand Mini Swim No.2, 3.5km event with operators to arrive at the Picnic Bay Surf Lifesaving
Club (near the Teen Sports Complex) on the Strand by 9am on July 10th.
The event will be held in waters just off The Strand with seven laps of a triangular course
between Strand Jetty and the Picnic Bay Surf Lifesaving Club,
with operators taking up vantage points on land along the course.

Strand Mini Swim No.3, 5km event with operators to arrive at the Picnic Bay Surf Lifesaving
Club (near the Teen Sports Complex) on the Strand by 10am on July 24th.
The event will be held in waters just off The Strand with two laps of a linear course between
Strand Jetty and The Breakwater, with operators taking up vantage points on land
along the course.

Apart from the usual VHF and UHF portable comms equipment required for these types of events
operators should also equip themselves with a good pair of polarising sun glasses. a wide brimmed
hat and optical magnification equipment such as binoculars.

51st Magnetic Island to Townsville Swim
Operational details for this event, happening on Sunday 10th September, will be forwarded
as they come to hand from the NQ WICEN Co-ordinator. Nevertheless this event is the big
one, normally requiring 15 or more portable Radio Amateurs to provide the communications
support necessary to run the morning relay swim and the afternoon solo swim safely.

Contact the NQ WICEN Co-ordinator Steve VK4JUS on 47723767 or 0414785443 NOW
to put your name down for all of the above events so planning can proceed with a minimum
of fuss.

- Message Handling Exercises
On-air exercises in Message Handling, pro-word usage and
transmission technique are currently being held following most
TARC Scramble Nights - normally the fourth Tuesday in the month
starting at 8pm on the VK4RAT VHF Repeater.
To ensure you are not completely useless when you are called
into helping with disaster communications, join in with the friendly group
and improve your message handling skills.

WICEN NET
WICEN Queensland holds a net every Sunday on 7075kHz from 8-30am (2230UTC)
The net calls in regular stations and then invites new stations to call in.
Mix it with other WICEN ops and call in on the net !!
