What you need to take when travelling to
Pelorus Island
PELORUS ISLAND CAMPING WEEKEND
We depart from TAYLORS BEACH boat ramp . It takes about 1 ˝ hours to get to Taylors Beach from Townsville. The Taylor’s Beach turnoff is the second turnoff to your right just as you leave North of Ingham. It takes approx. 30 minutes to get to Pelorus from the mainland. Before anything else the club tarp gets put up for shade to protect the eskies & their essential contents. The club FIRST AID KIT & OXYVIVA will also be located at the edge of the tarp for quick access should they be needed.
The compressor will be set up as far away from us as sensible. There is also a club BBQ plates.
Pelorus Island is a coral beach so footwear is essential.
When getting off and unloading the boat, its done in knee deep water with coral, rocks and the occasional razor sharp oyster shell about so wetsuit boots or shoes that can get wet will be needed.
YOU WILL NEED:
· DIVING / SNORKELLING GEAR – stinger suits are handy in the water (as an inshore island, there is still the possibility for stingers this time of year).· CAMPING EQUIPMENT tent, sleeping bag, air bed, etc.
· FOLDING CHAIR - believe us - this is essential!!
· FOOD- only take what you can eat ( PLAN EACH MEAL )
· TOILET PAPER & SMALL SPADE
DRINKING & ALL PURPOSE WATER, usually people take a small jerry can of water. Generally 5L per person per day is sufficient.
· ESKI with ice - Dry ice will last for 3 day weekends if packed properly.
Available from: BOC GASES - DUCKWORTH ST.
· TORCH / LIGHT
· HAT, SUNSCREEN & INSECT REPELLENT
· PARTY STUFF - DRINKS & NIBBLIES - THIS IS A NQUEC DIVE TRIP!!!
REMEMBER ........... EVERYTHING WE BRING WE HAVE TO LOAD ON & OFF THE BOAT & CARRY UP & DOWN THE BEACH. WE FORM A CHAIN GANG TO MAKE IT EASIER BUT PLEASE ONLY BRING WHAT YOU NEED.
Depart/Pickup from Pelorus Beach –
COST: Will depend on the charter boat that we use at the time of booking. Note that there is also a cost for the use of the compressor airfills of $5 per diving person per day (only on the days that you dive). This is to cover the cost of servicing the compressor.
